The Arts Council Creative Schools Initiative: Creative February
Dates: 1st – 28th February

The Arts Council is inviting all schools across Ireland to get involved in Creative February, a national celebration of creativity, as part of Creative Schools. 

Creative February is open to every school and educational setting in the country. School communities are invited to make their mark and for every student to connect to their own creativity. The initiative will run from the 1st – 28th February.

You will find lots of resources and ideas to help you to celebrate Creative February on the Arts Council’s Creative February website. 

The resources include: 

  • a beautiful poster created by artist Jeannine Storan in consultation with students in Presentation School in Listowel and Scoil Chríost Rí Primary School Causeway, Co. Kerry. The poster is designed to inspire you to Make Your Mark.
  • Top 10 Suggestions that will help get you started!
  • In class resources and videos provided by the Chester Beatty Library that will allow students to explore creativity and wellbeing.
  • John Hogan from Limerick Youth Theatre shares some drama exercises to promote wellbeing and creativity in the classroom.
  • Take Time Out: Every week Creative February will provide a different activity to allow teachers and students to take 10 minutes to be creative.

Podcasting Post Primary Callout:
Post primary students are invited to submit a podcast of 4-5 minutes on the topic How Will You Make You Mark? Resources and details on submission will be available on artscouncil.ie/Creative-Schools in the coming weeks.

Online Workshops for Primary Schools:
These popular workshops will give schools the opportunity to take some time out and be creative during Creative February.

  • Brigid’s Day Event: suitable for all primary students
    Join author Caroline Busher to explore the life of St. Brigid and learn more about the legend of Brigid’s cloak and the significance of Brigid’s cross.
    Date: 31 January, 10am – 11am
  • Make Your Mark: suitable for 2nd to 6th class
    Join artist and Creative Associate Laura Ní Fhlaibhín for an online workshop to explore all that drawing can be.
    Date: 6 February 2025, 10am to 11am
  • Origami Hearts: suitable for all primary students
    Join artist and Creative Associate Maev O’ Shea as students are guided though the creation of origami hearts. Write a love letter to creativity that can be stored inside the heart.
    Date: 10 February 2025, 10am to 11am
