My biggest takeaway from ITAC8 was a renewed understanding of how important arts and creativity are in education. Not only for developing the arts in Ireland, but for the wider impact arts education can have on communities and young people.

The Ark: Teachers’ CPD: Process to Performance
The Ark is holding a one-day practical workshop for primary-level teachers exploring how to take their class from process drama to performance. During this workshop, teachers will explore how to lead their class through a 3–4 session process drama experience, and how to use the key moments from the process to collaboratively devise a performance to share with an audience.

Dublin Book Festival: Schools Programme 2026
One of Ireland’s most successful and dynamic book festivals celebrates 20 years with a gathering of Ireland’s writers and publishers, working in Irish and English. It showcases, supports and develops Ireland’s writers and publishing sector by programming and promoting Irish books and their authors, editors and contributors, all in an entertaining, friendly, and accessible environment. The festival includes 13 events for schools.

UCD School of Music: UCD Composition Prize 2027
The UCD School of Music has officially launched the fourth year of the UCD Composition Prize. The competition offers secondary school students across Ireland the opportunity to have their music performed in the National Concert Hall, with cash prizes awarded to the top three winning pieces. The competition is open to Transition Year, 5th and 6th year or A-Level students studying anywhere on the island of Ireland.

Graffiti: Creative Learning. A new series of theatre workshops for primary school classes and their teachers through 2026 and 2027
Make at Graffiti in Cork is an opportunity for children discover, explore, and make a piece of theatre together, and to present it. Make builds a relationship between the Graffiti team and the class group, where they can work as co-creators with professional artists.

Opportunity: Writers in Schools Scheme
The Writers in Schools Scheme part-funds visits by writers and storytellers to primary and post-primary schools throughout the island of Ireland. It is funded by the Arts Council and managed and administered by Poetry Ireland. It was established in 1977 and has given over 500,000 children an opportunity to engage with writers, sparking creativity and fostering an appreciation of language, regardless of school location or size.
