Making Connections: Portal’s Recent Engagements in Arts in Education

Arts in Education Portal
Over the past few months, the Portal team has enjoyed engaging with key people and organisations in the Arts in Education sector, building connections and sharing opportunities that support and celebrate this vibrant sector.
In the spring, we were delighted to attend the Education Support Centres Ireland (ESCI) Directors meeting in Kilkenny. It was a wonderful opportunity to present the Portal to a national network of education leaders and to highlight some of the valuable supports we offer. We shared information about our events; Regional Day and National Day —gatherings that bring artists and educators together to reflect, share practice, and inspire future collaborations. We also spoke about the Documentation Award, which aims to document and share arts in education projects happening across the country.
In June, we found ourselves in a very warm Dublin, at The Ark in Temple Bar, for a Theatre for Young Audiences Ireland (TYAI) networking event. Surrounded by the beautiful setting of The Ark, we enjoyed lovely chats with artists, theatre makers, and practitioners who create work for young audiences. We heard about the inspiring projects being developed, the challenges artists face, and the shared passion for making art for children and young people. Throughout the afternoon we heard from TYAI members; about ASSITEJ International from Phillida Eves, got a brilliant introduction to the newly launched Early Years Network for the Arts from Cliodhna Noonan and Kate Murphy talked to us about Branar’s Meitheal Programme. Thank you to Ursula, Sadhbh and Niall for the warm welcome. Before we had to run for our bus, we took a quick peak at the Ark’s current Voyages exhibition, created by children, for children. We are definitely planning to come back and experience this gorgeous work properly! Voyages runs at the Ark until 23 August 2025.
We’re excited to continue these conversations, build new partnerships, and support the work being done across Ireland to connect young people with the arts. Stay tuned for more updates on our National Day on 8th November in partnership with TU Dublin, School or Art & Design.
ESCI is the umbrella organisation for the National Network of Teacher/Education (Support) Centres, which comprises 21 Full-time and 9 Part-time Education Centres.
