Opportunity for writers: Cork County Council Writers Block

Writers Block Programme
Deadline for entries: 5 January 2026
Cork County Council Library and Arts Service invites applications from writers for its new programme: Writers Block. This creative writing programme brings communities together through the written word. It will bring together a panel of writers to engage with communities on an ongoing basis throughout 2026.
Writers Block invites applications from experienced writers in all genres, from scriptwriting to slam poetry, who are interested in developing a programme of engagement with schools, writers’ groups, individuals, community groups and others interested in writing, for the year of 2026. Writers will be appointed to work in specific areas of the county.
How it works:
The objectives of this programme are to create a panel of writers to:
- Work to develop creative writing opportunities across communities in a defined area, engaging a variety of audiences such as older people, youth, hardly reached communities, and others. The area could be South, West, East or North Cork.
- Engage with local writers’ groups in Library Branches in their areas.
- Work collaboratively with the other writers on the panel to share knowledge, programme events, and develop shared outputs.
- Support planning of the Cork County Library and Arts Service’s 2025 programme for West Cork Literary Festival, Poetry Day, World Book Day, Culture Night, and Cruinniú na nÓg, etc.
- There will be opportunities to work collaboratively with the other writers on the panel to share knowledge, programme events, and develop shared outputs.
