Join the Mother Tongues board! Mother Tongues is Ireland’s leading non-profit organisation dedicated to celebrating and promoting linguistic diversity through the arts. They are passionate about supporting multilingual families, empowering educators and fostering an inclusive society where every language is valued. Through innovative programmes, such as Language Explorers and the annual Mother Tongues Festival, they work to make multilingualism visible and celebrated across the country.
Call for New Board Members (Voluntary)
As Mother Tongues continues to grow its reach and impact across Ireland, they are seeking committed and strategic thinkers to join their voluntary Board of Directors. Joining the Board is a unique opportunity to guide the governance and future strategic direction of a dynamic non-profit organisation.

!!!! Artists Training and Work Opportunity: Mother Tongues Language Explorers
Mother Tongues Language Explorers
Closing date: 11 November
Mother Tongues is offering training to individuals interested in joining their panel of artist facilitators. This panel will be called upon to conduct workshops in Co. Dublin, Co. Galway and Co. Roscommon.
About the training
The programme combines hands-on learning and reflection, supporting artists to build confidence, learn new skills and find creative ways to celebrate languages, cultures and stories through the arts.
The Language Explorers training will help you grow as an artist and as a creative facilitator.
Who should apply?
Artists from all art forms who have a collaborative and inclusive practice and enjoy working with families with young children are invited to apply.
During the programme, you will:
- Improve your facilitation skills for working with young children aged 3 to 6 and their families
- Develop your artistic and creative practice
- Learn more about bilingualism and multilingualism in early childhood
- Be part of a transformative change, helping to build a more inclusive and multilingual Ireland
Once the training is successfully completed, you will be part of a panel of freelance Language Explorers facilitators.
PLEASE NOTE: Being accepted onto the panel does not guarantee paid work as a facilitator or artist within the programme. Opportunities will depend on Mother Tongues’ successful fundraising.

Mother Tongues Festival 2026 – Open Call for Artists

Mother Tongues Festival is now accepting proposals from artists to lead family workshops on Saturday, 21st February 2026 in Tallaght.
Celebrating Ireland’s cultural and linguistic diversity, the Mother Tongues Festival fosters dialogue, inclusion and joy through the arts. Every year, their programme showcases the richness of Ireland’s artistic and cultural landscape. This year, the theme is “The Power of Story”, and they are inviting artists to share their unique ways of bringing stories to life.
What they are looking for:
Proposals are welcome across all art forms – music, visual arts, storytelling, traditional crafts, or something entirely different! They are particularly interested in workshops that celebrate languages other than English and encourage active participation. All proposals will be considered, but we will give priority to workshops that clearly connect to one of these processes:
- Creativity and multilingualism
- Languages from shared heritage
Workshop requirements:
- Designed for families (parents/carers and children together).
- Cater to one of these age groups: 2–3 years, 3–6 years, or 6–8 years.
- Fee: €250 per workshop (including materials).
