CREATIVE DANCE TALES – Acmhainn Dhigiteach do Mhúinteoirí agus d’Ealaíontóirí Damhsa


Inis scéal do thionscadail dúinn – Céard a spreag é? Céard faoi a raibh sé? Cé a bhí páirteach ann? Cén chaoi ar thosaigh tú?

Is scéalaíocht trí dhamhsa é CREATIVE DANCE TALES. Cuireadh tús leis mar shraith de cheardlanna píolótacha agus thug Ireland Funds tacaíocht don tsraith in 2015, agus ba í Amharclann Damhsa CoisCéim a chuir ar siúl í le linn léiriú David Bolger darb ainm THE WOLF AND PETER. Cuireadh na ceardlanna ar fáil do os cionn 300 páiste in ocht mbunscoil timpeall na hÉireann, agus thug siad eispéireas foghlama, samhlaíoch, cinéistéiseach i ndamhsaíocht. Cuireadh dhá cheardlann forbartha ghairmiúla ar siúl d’oideoirí i mBaile Átha Cliath agus i nGaillimh. Tháinig CREATIVE DANCE TALES chun cinn ó iarratais a rinne na múinteoirí i mbunscoileanna go pointe áirithe. Thug cónaitheacht arna maoiniú ag an gComhairle Ealaíon i Scoil na nEalaíon, Oideachais agus Gluaiseachta, Institiúid Oideachais, Campas Phádraig, DCU, thug sé tacaíocht dó seo, agus d’fhorbair CoisCéim Broadreach agus an tIonad Corpoideachais an chónaitheacht trí bliana mar leagáid.

Cén chaoi ar forbraíodh na smaointe agus cén chaoi ar oibrigh na daoine óga, an t-ealaíontóir agus an múinteoir le chéile?

D’éabhlóidigh an tionscadal trí oibriú le páistí i suíomhanna éagsúla bunscoile ar fud na tíre, agus trí oibriú leis an Aonad Corpoideachais agus ábhair oidí fochéime ón Institiúid Oideachais, Coláiste Phádraig mar a bhí, ar thionscadal damhsa chruthaithigh sa scoil mar cuid den mhór-speisialtóireachta chorpoideachais.

D’oibrigh Philippa Donnellan (Stiúrthóir CoisCéim BROADREACH) le páistí i suíomhanna bunscoile éagsúla ar fud na tíre san fhómhar in 2015 le linn turas náisiúnta de léiriú de The Wolf and Peter le David Bolger an Stiúrthóir Ealaíne de chuid Amharclann Damhsa CoisCéim. Chuir sí tús le hobair leis an Ionad Corpoideachais san Earrach in 2016 le múinteoirí faoi oiliúint ó Institiúid Oideachais DCU, ar tugadh Coláiste Phádraig air san am a caitheadh, ar thionscadal damhsa chruthaithigh mar chuid dá staidéar mór-speisialtóireachta corpoideachais. Tógadh ábhar agus smaointe ón scór ceoil agus ón ábhar cóiréagrafach agus drámatúil ó The Wolf and Peter. Stiúir Philippa an obair, agus chuir sí leis an obair a bhí déanta ag na scoláirí cheana i ndamhsa cruthaitheach mar chuid dá modúil chorpoideachais. Cén taithí phearsanta a bhí agat ar an tionscadal i dtéarmaí ratha agus dúshlán?

De réir dhearcadh an EALAÍONTÓRA DAMHSA – Bhí rath ar an tionscadal nuair a chonacthas a iomláine a bhí na páistí rannpháirteach agus iad ag obair go cruthaitheach i ndamhsa agus áthas orthu. Bhí na páistí an-díograiseach agus sásta gan aon eisceacht den chuid is mó agus iad ag glacadh pháirt an mhic tíre’ nó ag déanamh an charachtair Peter a bheochan agus ba é sin a thaispeáin a dhearfaí atá gníomhaíocht damhsa mar mhodh foghlama. Bhí sé de dhúshlán againn acmhainn dhigiteach a bhí lán-chuimsitheach, ina raibh macántacht ealaíne laistigh de chreat soiléir oideachais, agus a bhí spreagúil agus a raibh teacht air go héasca do mhúinteoirí agus d’ealaíontóirí damhsa araon.

De réir dhearcadh na LÉACHTÓIRÍ I gCORPOIDEACHAS – cuimsíodh leis na rudaí a baineadh amach; rannpháirtíocht na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint leis na ceardlanna CREATIVE TALES DANCE agus caighdeán a gcuid oibre. Fuarthas sásamh as bheith ag breathnú ar dhul chun cinn na múinteoirí agus iad ag múineadh na gceachtanna damhsa do pháistí bunscoile na háite. Cuireadh feabhas ar scileanna oideolaíochta na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint agus ar chaighdeán oibre na bpáistí. Chonacthas muinín agus tuiscint na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint chun damhsa cruthaitheach a mhúineadh sa mhéid a dúirt siad agus ina ndialanna machnamhacha.  B’iontach dearfach agus saibhir iad, na deiseanna do na scoláirí, do na baill foirne agus do pháistí bunscoile na háite agus b’iontach dearfach an t-imeacht pobail a chonaic a gcuid múinteoirí, THE WOLF AND PETER sa halla éisteachta i gcampas Phádraig. Cuimsíodh leis na dúshláin, an riarachán a bhain le gnéithe éagsúla an tionscadail, an t-am a bhí le cur ar leataobh chun an acmhainn a scríobh, a dhearadh agus a chur in eagar.

Cén tábhacht a bhain leis an tionscadal duit ar fiú a roinnt?

Bhí an tionscadal ina chabhair chun daoine a nascadh le chéile, lena n-áirítear na léachtóirí Corpoideachais, na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint, múinteoirí, na páistí, CoisCéim agus baill foirne curaclaim eile le linn dóibh a bheith ar thuras damhsa amhairc a bhí spraíúil, fiúntach agus praiticiúil a nascadh le Curaclam Bunscoile na hÉireann (1999).  Is acmhainn dhigiteach é CREATIVE DANCE TALES atá ina thacaíocht shuntasach mhúinteoireachta atá ar fáil ar lárshuíomh Idirlín na nEalaíon do mhúinteoirí, do mhúinteoirí faoi oiliúint agus do dhaoine eile.

Ar athraigh aon rud i do chuid oibre mar gheall ar an tionscadal?

De réir dhearcadh an EALAÍONTÓRA DAMHSA – Agus mé i mo Phríomhealaíontóir Damhsa ar na tionscadal seo, ba iad taithí agus tuiscint a fuarthas ó bheith ag obair i suíomhanna foirmeálta oideachais éagsúla – a rinne soiléiriú ar mo chuid oibre oideachais damhsa féin. Creidim go mór mór gur shimpligh sé mo scileanna múinteoireachta agus na modhanna éagsúla a úsáidim agus gur dhírigh sé iad chun páistí a threorú chun a fhás agus a fhoghlaim go cruthaitheach.

De réir dhearcadh na LÉACHTÓIRÍ CORPOIDEACHAIS – Beidh an acmhainn CREATIVE DANCE TALE mar thacaíocht d’obair dhamhsa chorpoideachais do na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint agus í againn. Agus an acmhainn ar fáil i bhformáid dhigiteach, beidh sé níos éasca do na múinteoirí faoi oiliúint na ceachtanna a mhúineadh le linn dóibh a bheith ar shocrúchán scoile. Is féidir leo infhaighteacht na hacmhainne a chur i iúl do na scoileanna socrúcháin scoile. Is féidir leis an Aonad Corpoideachais agus Cumann Corpoideachais Bunscoile na hÉireann an nasc a roinnt ar an acmhainn ar na suíomhanna gréasáin ábhartha.

Ealaíontóir(í):

Philippa Donnellan trained in Contemporary Dance Technique at The Martha Graham School, New York, and gained an M.A in Dance Studies from Surrey University, UK. Philippa has extensive experience as a performer, teacher and choreographer.  She continues to evolve her creative dance practice through working with a wide variety of communities of place, age, ability, and location.

Philippa joined CoisCéim Dance Theatre in 2006 to set up BROADREACH – participation and engagement programme. As part of BROADREACH she has facilitated residencies, associations and partnerships with a number of leading Irish institutions. Philippa has directed and choreographed a range of projects for CoisCéim’s youth dance group Creative Steps, and adults in The Choreography Project, developed an annual Dublin City Council/BROADREACH  performance project for people aged 50+as part of Bealtaine Festival (2007 – 2015), and choreographed performances with Dublin Bus drivers as part of Gut Busters - a major health initiative for CIE. In addition, Philippa led and coordinated the Teacher Education element of CoisCéim’s 3 Year Dance Residency at St Patrick’s College, Drumcondra 2013 - 2016.

In 2013 BROADREACH was awarded a CocoCola Thank You Fund Award for which Philippa directed The Beat Project – an intergenerational dance/music performance project which was presented at The Big Bang Festival of Rhythm, Dublin in June of the same year. Following an award from IPB Insurance, a second intergenerational project Striking Moves was created and performed at the same festival in 2014. In 2015, Philippa led a nationwide workshop programme, CREATIVE DANCE TALES, for primary school children, which ran in parallel to CoisCéim’s production The Wolf and Peter. She also directed Feast on Dance: The Main Course, CoisCéim/Dublin City Council’s for people aged 50+ Bealtaine project presented at City Hall, Dublin, and for Age & Opportunity, led training workshops as part of Creative Exchange for care workers and artists to develop movement activities for older people in care settings.

In 2016, she collaborated with theatre maker Noelle Brown to lead a dance/theatre exploration project Emily for people aged 50+ about the poetry of Emily Dickenson, and directed a new performance project in partnership with Dance Limerick entitled Here’s Looking At You Kid. Philippa also mentored a dance film project for Creative Steps youth group Where Are We Now? Four films were created, which have been screened at a range of youth/film events. In autumn 2016 she directed a large scale intergenerational women’s project 38 WOMEN, in parallel with THESE ROOMS


Múinteoir(í):

Susan Marron is a lecturer in the School of Arts Education and Movement at Dublin City University Institute of Education.  A former second-level Physical Education and Geography secondary school teacher, Susan has been lecturing in physical education since 2004 and is currently International Convenor for the School of Arts Education and Movement.  Susan’s research focuses on fundamental movements skills of children and young people and digital technology and PE and inclusion.  She creates resources to support teachers in implementing programmes which engage their students in quality movement. Her MSc study focussed on physical activity in the primary school playground at break time.

Dr Frances Murphy is a lecturer in the School of Arts Education and Movement at Dublin City University Institute of Education.  A former primary teacher, Frances has worked on curriculum development for physical education at primary level for a number of years.  Frances’ research interests include mentoring teachers to enhance their teaching practice, continuing professional development, teacher beliefs and practices, inclusion of children with special needs and assessment, all with a particular focus on physical education.

Dr Maura Coulter is a lecturer in primary physical education in the School of Arts Education and Movement at Dublin City University Institute of Education.  Prior to joining academia in 2000, Maura held a teaching position in second-level physical education at St Patrick's Girls Academy, Dungannon.  Maura’s research interests include professional development, teacher education, mentoring,  outdoor learning, digital technology and PE, and self-study of teacher practice.
