Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council

Since 1994 Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has funded artists to collaborate with primary school children and their teachers across the County. It is one of the oldest artists in schools’ programmes in the Country. Since it began, the dlr Primary Arts Programme has helped develop the creativity of thousands of school children. The programme has been supported by Blackrock Education Centre since 2008.

An Cathaoirleach of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Cllr. Jim O’Leary said:

“Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is extremely proud of the dlr Primary Arts Programme. It gives children an opportunity to explore their creativity with a professional artist in their own classroom. This could be dance, music, visual art, or literature and it ensures that all children in our County can access culture. Many thanks to all the children, artists, teachers that have taken part in the past 30 years and to Blackrock Education Centre for their continued support.”

Frank Curran, Chief Executive of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council added:

“Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is very pleased to continue our work ensuring children have access to high quality arts experiences in their schools. Creative opportunities such as these positively impact their wellbeing and help develop creative thinking skills which are much needed in today’s world.”

To celebrate 30 years of our Primary Arts Programme, a worksheet for children by celebrated illustrator Chris Judge will be sent to all the Primary Schools in the County, highlighting the many ways of being creative.
