National Gallery of Ireland: Transition Year / Youth Work Experience 2025/26

Applications are now open for the National Gallery of Ireland’s Transition Year / Youth Work experience programme 2025/26. The placement offers an insight into working life in the arts and an opportunity to go behind the scenes at the National Gallery of Ireland.
What will students do?
This placement is an exciting opportunity for students to experience working life at one of Ireland’s top cultural institutions and explore a range of careers across the arts sector. During the placement, students will meet with industry professionals from a variety of disciplines such as education, conservation, curation, cultural management, and art practice. They will also develop a range of creative skills through practical workshops and projects. In previous placements, student projects have included planning events, creating tours and making collective art pieces.
Placement Dates:
In the academic year 2025/26, the National Gallery of Ireland will run three work experience placements, one virtual and two onsite.
- Virtual Placement: Monday 17 – Friday 21 November 2025
- Onsite Placement A: Monday 19 – Friday 23 January 2026
- Onsite Placement B: Monday 9 – Friday 13 February 2026
This placement is suitable for anyone aged 15 – 17 years old from any education setting who is interested in exploring a career in the arts. The week involves hands-on activities and is suitable for students with different learning styles. Students are asked to be are open to trying something new, engage with the programme, and work as part of a team.
