Closing date: 24 April 2026

Chamber Choir Ireland is currently accepting applications from secondary school music teachers for Composers in the Classroom 2026/27.

This free youth composition programme gives secondary school students (age 15-18) across Ireland and Northern Ireland the opportunity and skills to create their own piece of choral music.

Throughout the September-December term, a selection of Ireland’s leading composers will travel to schools across the island to coach students in the creative process of composing for choir. Students are mentored by these composers as they create their own pieces of choral music, and have them brought to life in a professional recording and gala performance by Chamber Choir Ireland in January 2027.

There is no fee for participating schools and students.

Composers in the Classroom is delivered in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland and funded by Arts Council/ an Chomhairle Ealaíon and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.

The deadline for applications is 5pm, Friday 24 April.

Teachers can find further information and apply for their students to participate here: chamberchoirireland.com/learning-participation/composers-in-the-classroom/
