Schools can watch Wires, Strings & Other Things, presented by The Ark and Music Network, from the comfort of the classroom. The performance and a series of new workshops are available to stream on-demand for free as part of Music Network’s 40th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

Wires, Strings & Other Things introduces three very different musicians: Ed, who creates unusual electronic instruments and explores his own world of sound; Andreea, a viola player who approaches music with curiosity and precision; and James, a bass clarinet player who explores a labyrinth of sound.

As the three musicians meet, they begin to invent music together. The performance invites children to explore how music can be composed, performed and improvised, with opportunities for audiences to listen, respond and contribute.

Conceived and created by Brian Irvine and Wouter Van Looy, Wires, Strings & Other Things encourages children to be curious about the sounds and music around them. It explores listening, communication and creative responses through music and storytelling.

Originally presented and toured in 2022, the production returns online in 2026 through The Ark’s digital platform.

The Ark, a cultural centre for children, has been a long-term strategic partner of Music Network since 2012, working together to develop new music performances for children and family audiences.
