Kilkenny Education Centre is an open and innovative Centre which inspires and supports teaching and learning in the educational community. The Arts are an integral part of the cultural, tourism and economic development of our catchment area. Therefore, our programme of local courses and projects are offered in collaboration with the arts and heritage offices of Kilkenny County Council and the many local arts organisations who support us to deliver high quality opportunities to local schools and teachers.

The Design and Craft Council of Ireland (DCCOI) are based in Kilkenny and collaboratively we work to manage and support the rollout of the CRAFTed Programme to schools nationally, through the ESCI network. The CRAFTed Programme gives primary school children and teachers an exciting opportunity to explore their creativity and learn new skills by working with local professional craftspeople in the classroom.

A recent collaborative project with Poetry Ireland, Irish Aid and the Kilkenny based Cartoon Saloon is another good example of how we link with others to provide innovative project opportunities for schools. Seven primary schools and three post primary schools creatively explored themes in the book and the Oscar nominated animated film, The Breadwinner. The resulting showcase of work highlighted pupil engagement in themes such as courage, self-empowerment and facing fear using many forms of creative expression and art mediums.

Kilkenny Education Centre are also part of the Teacher – Artist Partnership (TAP) arts in education initiative that trains teachers and artists to work collaboratively together to provide a 20 hour residency in primary schools.
We also support clusters of schools, through the Creative Cluster scheme, to work together to progress creative projects and to experiment, innovate and collaborate on the design, implementation and evaluation of a collaborative creative learning project. Schools have access to creative people, skills and resources from their local communities.

For our 20th anniversary, we commissioned a legacy piece of art in the lobby of our Centre, to reflect our vision and mission but also connect with and relate to education, to teachers and to children. The beautiful piece, created by local artist, Lucy McKenna, has huge potential to inspire art projects in schools, integrating maths, science and art.

The West Cork Education Centre has a long history of involvement with the arts and it has a strong partnership with the Uillinn West Cork Arts Centre in Skibbereen. Together the West Cork Arts Centre and West Cork Education centre run projects collaboratively.

We run courses and projects in the following areas:

Waterford Teachers’ Centre support the Arts curriculum by providing workshops and Summer courses, facilitated by local teachers who have expertise in the area of the Arts, covering all strands of the Visual Primary Curriculum, also the Music curriculum and on occasion, Drama.

The Centre supports a Teachers Creative Writers group which this year published an anthology of work, ‘Teachers Who Write, an Anthology’ along with contributions from many other teachers around the country.

A number of choirs involving local teachers use the Centre as a venue for rehearsal.

The centre also engages with and funds the CRAFTed initiative where by a local craftsperson provides a craft and design programme in primary schools where pupils can engage in a hands-on ‘in classroom’ collaborative process and experience the learning and engagement in the learning process.

Waterford Teachers’ Centre are also part of the Teacher-Artist Partnership (TAP) arts in education initiative that trains teachers and artists to work collaboratively together to provide a 20 hour residency in an area of the Arts in the teachers class.

The centre also this year engaged with and supported the Creative Cluster initiative, which allows clusters of schools to identify an area of the Arts that they wish to develop in their schools and to carry out this project as a group with the support of an experienced Arts facilitator.

We invested heavily as part of the Laois Commemoration of the Centenary of the 1916 Rising in a collaborative Laois Post-Primary schools project. This was unique as all Post-Primary schools in the county participated in this project. As a result, on entering Laois Education Centre you cannot but be impressed by the large ceramic wall sculpture “looking Back – Looking Forward”.  By means of visual imagery, it tells the complex story, in its own unique way, of 1916 and beyond, of the heroes and the ordinary man, of the everyday artefacts and of the symbols of past and future all of which have made our Nation what it is.  It was a mammoth ask of all involved, starting with a blank canvas, teasing our possible ideas, problem, solutions and outcomes for the group of 12 teachers and thirty one student ambassadors from their respective schools.

Donegal Education Support Centre is an open and innovative Centre which inspires and supports teaching and learning in the educational community. The Arts are an integral part of the cultural, tourism and economic development of our catchment area of Co. Donegal. Therefore, our programme of local courses, initiatives and projects are offered in collaboration with the Arts and Heritage Officers and the many local arts organisations who support us to deliver high quality opportunities to local schools and teachers. The Centre is heavily involved in the CRAFTed Programme.

The CRAFTed Programme gives primary school children and teachers an exciting opportunity to explore their creativity and learn new skills by working with local professional craftspeople in the classroom. Participating schools work closely with a local artist in a very hands on initiative with children’s work being showcased an annual event in the Cultural Centre each May. Donegal Education Support Centre are also part of the Teacher-Artist Partnership (TAP) arts in education initiative that trains teachers and artists to work collaboratively together to provide a 20 hour residency in primary schools.

We also support clusters of schools, through the Creative Cluster scheme, to work together to progress creative projects and to experiment, innovate and collaborate on the design, implementation and evaluation of a collaborative creative learning project. Schools have access to creative people, skills and resources from their local communities.

Here in Donegal, we are fortunate to have fabulously talented crafts and art people who share their expertise in local classrooms and work closely with our teachers throughout the county, providing local supports to teachers and schools in the catchment area.

Cork Education Support Centre supports the Arts in Education through the provision of opportunities for professional development for teachers, engagement in projects such as Teacher/Artist Partnership (TAP), Creative Clusters and Summer courses. Our TAP courses and Creative Clusters are very well attended and supported by Cork City Council Art Department. We have a very proactive artist base in Cork that cover a wide variety of mediums such as Drama, Poetry, Visual, Puppetry and Music.

Teacher Artist Partnership summer courses offer an opportunity to explore an arts-in-education initiative where artists and teachers train to work in partnership in a primary school setting. The TAP Residency programme is a fully funded in-school opportunity to work collaboratively in the classroom for the following academic year. The programme aims to improve literacy, numeracy and wellbeing in the classroom environment whilst also allowing students and pupils alike to explore their artistic talents.

The Creative Clusters Scheme forms part of the Creative Youth plan to enable the creativity of our children and young people. There is a grant available to participating schools and Clusters can consist of primary schools only, post-primary schools only or a combination of primary and post primary schools, with a minimum of three schools participating and a maximum of five. This programme provides an opportunity for clusters of schools to experiment, innovate and collaborate on the design, implementation and evaluation of a bespoke creative learning project, with access to a specialist facilitator, artist or creative expertise in whatever their own chosen area of interest or theme might be. These resources help the schools build a programme of learning and activities tailor-made for their students.

Carrick-on-Shannon Education Centre supports the Arts in Education through the provision of opportunities for professional development for teachers, engagement in projects such as CRAFTed, Teacher Artist Partnership (TAP), Creative Cluster and various Summer and local courses.

CRAFTed is the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Primary School Visual Arts based educational programme. It promotes learning through creativity and innovation, placing professional craftspeople to work alongside teachers in primary schools. It focuses on integrated learning methodologies through the Visual Arts Curriculum, using a process-led methodology that focuses on the child’s own creativity.

Teacher Artist Partnership offers teachers the opportunity to explore the nature and educational value of partnerships between teachers and artists in supporting arts education in schools. This course potentially improves literacy, numeracy & well-being in all schools including DEIS. Many schools across the country are engaged in projects with artists, ranging from one-off artist visits to longer term projects, and in a variety of art forms. Teacher/Artist Partnership looks at the ways in which working with an artist in school can be enhanced in order to provide meaningful experiences for children and a lasting impact on school practice. Particular emphasis is on the role of the teacher and artist, their unique contributions to projects and the significant benefits that can accrue from a dynamic teacher/artist relationship in the planning and implementation of projects. Placing the teacher/artist project within the overall arts curriculum in schools and exploration of practical issues are central.

We also support clusters of schools, through the Creative Cluster scheme, to work together to progress creative projects and to experiment, innovate and collaborate on the design, implementation and evaluation of a collaborative creative learning project. !!!! Donegal Education Centre

!!!! Cork Education Support Centre
